For my last birthday my spouse decided I would build her a shed the following summer and got me the Shed Building for beginners guide as a gift. Alright, I got cheated on that present for sure however truth be told, it was precisely what I needed.

I am the type of person who simply jumps in to tasks with a image in my head of what the finished project ought to look like but with absolutely nothing in writing… or drawing such as some type of plans or a functioning blueprint. Read the rest of this entry »

Need A Ramp For Your Storage Shed?

Do you have a nice storage shed but need a ramp to get your lawn and garden equipment inside without damage to yourself or your equipment?

To learn more about building plans for ramps and more click here.

Your ramp ideally should incline at a rate of 3” per vertical foot. If it is too steep it could cause difficulties in a  number of ways. Example number one, if you have a driving lawn mower with a belly blade on it the belly will hit the entrance to the shed if your ramp is to steep.

Also, the type of wood you build the ramp with (if not the right type) can get algae build up on it …when wet it can be slippery as ice and you know the rest of this story!
So, It is important to have the proper slope on your ramp remember not to steep. Next you need to make sure you build it sturdy to handle the weight it will be subject to. A 200+  man riding on a 300+ lawn tractor can put a lot of stress on the ramp..again not good!
It would be ideal to use 4” X 4” pressure treated framing set no more than 12” apart and use ¾” pressure treated plywood for your ramp surface. It is also ideal to use either non-skid or rubber decking to prevent slipping when the ramp is wet.

Wooden Storage Shed Plans

My very first shop project was in senior high school but it wasn’t a thing of beauty, it got the job done that it was meant for however it could have been constructed better. When I think back at exactly what went wrong I recognize that I was done for before I even began simply because I had a hand sketched plan of what I needed but it wasn’t a specific and concise blueprint. If I had been a journeymen level carpenter it would not have made a big difference simply because I could have finished a masterpiece of design simply because of my expertise.

If you’re a do-it-yourself at heart but lack expertise then before you decide to begin any kind of woodworking project whether it is as basic as constructing a dog house or as complicated as a 2 car garage you will need a good road map, that’s where a good set of building plans turn out to be very useful. Not merely will you finish a much better project but you will save yourself money and time! The reason why? Simply because having good plans you’ll understand from the beginning: Looking for woodworking plans for a new shed construction or other projects?

Garden Storage Shed Plans

If you start with a sound and level foundation with a good set of shed plans almost anyone with basic carpentry skills can build a shed that can be used for garden or just storage.

Is it better to buy a shed or build one?

If you have basic carpentry skills and a good blueprint you can save a lot of money building a shed yourself. If money is no object then it is better to have someone build it to your specifications, however it is still a good investment to have a set of plans so you can get your ideas across to the builder. Buying a shed premade or a kit limits you to only the size or designs available.

Will I need special permits for building a shed?

That depends on the scope of your project. The best solution is to check with your city for any building permits that may be required, better to be safe than sorry. Looking for woodworking plans for a new shed construction or other projects?
