For my last birthday my spouse decided I would build her a shed the following summer and got me the Shed Building for beginners guide as a gift. Alright, I got cheated on that present for sure however truth be told, it was precisely what I needed.
I am the type of person who simply jumps in to tasks with a image in my head of what the finished project ought to look like but with absolutely nothing in writing… or drawing such as some type of plans or a functioning blueprint. Read the rest of this entry »

Your ramp ideally should incline at a rate of 3” per vertical foot. If it is too steep it could cause difficulties in a number of ways. Example number one, if you have a driving lawn mower with a belly blade on it the belly will hit the entrance to the shed if your ramp is to steep.

My very first shop project was in senior high school but it wasn’t a thing of beauty, it got the job done that it was meant for however it could have been constructed better. When I think back at exactly what went wrong I recognize that I was done for before I even began simply because I had a hand sketched plan of what I needed but it wasn’t a specific and concise blueprint. If I had been a journeymen level carpenter it would not have made a big difference simply because I could have finished a masterpiece of design simply because of my expertise.
If you’re a do-it-yourself at heart but lack expertise then before you decide to begin any kind of woodworking project whether it is as basic as constructing a dog house or as complicated as a 2 car garage you will need a good road map, that’s where a good set of building plans turn out to be very useful. Not merely will you finish a much better project but you will save yourself money and time! The reason why? If you start with a sound and level foundation with a good set of shed plans almost anyone with basic carpentry skills can build a shed that can be used for garden or just storage.
Is it better to buy a shed or build one?
If you have basic carpentry skills and a good blueprint you can save a lot of money building a shed yourself. If money is no object then it is better to have someone build it to your specifications, however it is still a good investment to have a set of plans so you can get your ideas across to the builder. Buying a shed premade or a kit limits you to only the size or designs available.
Will I need special permits for building a shed?
